​James Cook University (JCU) is a public research university located in North Queensland, Australia. Established in 1961 as the University College of Townsville and granted university status in 1970, JCU is the second oldest university in Queensland. It is named after the British explorer James Cook, reflecting its deep connection to the tropical regions it serves.
