The Waikato Institute of Technology, commonly known as Wintec, is one of New Zealand’s largest and leading tertiary education institutes. Based in Hamilton, it is now a subsidiary of Te Pūkenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology, the national vocational education provider. 

Academic Overview

Wintec offers over 130 courses ranging from foundation certificates to master's degrees.

Wintec operates three main campuses in Hamilton: 

  • City Campus (Hamilton CBD): Home to the schools of Business, IT, and Media Arts.
  • Rotokauri Campus: Dedicated to Trades, Engineering, Animal Care, Sports Science, and Hospitality.
  • Hamilton Gardens Campus: Offers specialized training in horticulture, arboriculture, and landscape design.
