Alfred University (AU), founded in 1836, is a comprehensive university in Western New York located southeast of Buffalo, New York. Alfred enrolls some 2,000 students with approximately 300 being Graduate students.

AU is known for very strong academic programs and offers degrees in five major schools and colleges. These are the 1) College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, 2) the School of Engineering, 3) Graduate School, and 4) the School of Business. Collectively over 60 programs are available in the bachelor's and Graduate degree areas.

Alfred University is known around the world for several of its programs including Ceramic Art, Ceramic Engineering, and Glass Engineering. These are very special and highly recognized programs not found at most universities. Alfred, together with the large Corning corporation and the State of New York, created the "Ceramic Corridor." This is a high-tech incubator project designed to take advantage of the growing ceramics industry and its ability to create new jobs. This unique industrial development program is the only one in the United States relating to high-tech ceramics. These programs provide unique opportunities for students.

Another strong Astronomy program. For Astronomy, the Alfred campus has the famous 7-telescope Stull Observatory, which has one of the largest optical telescopes in all of New York State.

Students like Alfred University as it is a smaller university where they can be very involved with their studies in smaller classes. On campus, there are many clubs and organizations for students including opportunities to work on the campus, be involved in sports teams, student government, and many professional and academic organizations.
